We are now weeks away from moving from the Early Intervention Program into the school district. The summer has been hard, knowing these changes are coming.
We will lose the service coordinator that has been with us from the start, has walked with us from the days of a teacher once a week for 30 minutes and speech every other week for 30 minutes to a diagnoses and our current therapy levels. She has always made us feel like our daughter is important to her and has taken joy in watching her grow and change. That isn't where the changes end.
We also lose our speech therapist, who has been with us since the baby was 2 weeks old. Not only has she watch our daughter change and grow, she has gone out of her way to include the boys and I don't think she knows how much that means to us.
OT and PT therapists have been with us for over a year also. Thinking back to the first time we met the PT. It was the day our daughter was diagnosed, she came in the afternoon and we had already received the news. My parents where over and it was clear that Jeff and I were emotional.
To be honest that day bonded us to all of these people in ways I never would of imagined. They sat in the room with us (not the PT) and heard the news about our daughter, they became apart of that emotional day forever.
We will also lose our newest therapist, ABA. She has spent the most time in our home, seen our family interact the most and shares my name. Our start with ABA was rough, we didn't understand the process and it was hard on me to adjust and let go enough for it to work. Thankfully she was kind and allowed me to be involved and I finally eased off.
I will miss all of these women for many different reasons. They have all improved our lives and have earned a spot in our family. Now to figure out a proper good-bye for the people that mean so much.
Life is full of changes - they sure can be hard. Sending you lots of hugs.
